DAY 22 - JULY 26, BERGERES LES VERTUS TO MEAUX, FRANCE ; 65miles/ 104 km

Our major concern today was the expectation of HEAT, combined with the rather long distance of the ride. Everything turned out fine, the weather was not a problem.

We left early is a soft rain and directly into the rolling hills for miles. Our elevation gain Today was 2900 feet, mainly at the start and finish of the ride. We parted the “Rue de Champagne”, which we have followed through the vineyards of the Champagne region, into the main wheat growing region, but where we also saw beautiful fields of “Sun Flowers”, standing tall. It was an enjoyable ride with the compensating great descents after the climbs. It was scenic as well, passing through the small designated as “Village Fleuri”, for their emphasis on flowers in yards and along the roads. We arrived in MEAUX , best known for its BRIE cheese and the Cathedral built over 400 years ago. Our hotel overlooks the meandering Marne River and the steeple of the Cathedral.
