DAY 5 LUBECK TO HAMBURG. JULY 9. 44 mi / 70km

Today we biked 44 miles to Hamburg, Germany where a rest day awaits us. Hamburg is a large port city: the second largest city in the nation and its largest port. It is located on the Elbe River with access to the North Sea, and ports worldwide. Hamburg is also said to be the wealthiest city in Germany.

The ride to Hamburg began on the city roads out of Lubeck, and then onto narrow country paths of packed dirt, and paved. bike paths, and roadways. The cold, windy weather was with us all day, but we have the proper clothes for it.

We passed through small towns, farm land, and forest pathways, stopping only at sAG stops and for coffee. Entering Hamburg was mainly on pathways and through parks, away from city traffic. A GOOD DAY ON THE BIKE!
